Sounds as if Palmetto Bay has some interesting events coming up, according to what Village Events Coordinator Saylin Paez tells us. First, on Friday, September 4, “detective skills – and an appetite – will be necessary for the ‘Til Death Do Us Part’ Murder Mystery Dinner & Show starting at 7:30 p.m. at Thalatta Estate Park, overseeing the beautiful Biscayne Bay.” Guests will enjoy a delicious three-course meal and an exciting evening of interaction with a professional cast to figure out the culprit in a lively “who-dun-it” mystery. Murdermystery dinners begin innocently enough—diners arrive to mingle amid drinks and quiet conversation. As diners munch away, a sudden death interrupts the feasting. A detective arrives to determine who the killer is, inevitably laying blame on one of the audience members.

Tablemates work together to prove their innocence and find the real killer through an interactive performance full of hilarious characters and eye-catching costumes. Purchase tickets at Coral Reef Park, 7895 SW152nd Street, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to noon, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays/Sundays from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Admission is $50 per person and includes one free drink, three course dinner, the evening’s entertainment. Tickets are limited. For info 305-253-8655 or 305-259-1234.

Score! Still thrilled with the USA Women’s Soccer Team becoming the FIFA World Cup Champions? Of course! The village is throwing a “Kick It Up for Coach Ellis” Rally at Coral Reef Park on Saturday, September 12 at 1:00 p.m. to honor Head Coach and Palmetto Bay resident Jill Ellis. That’s at 7895 SW 152nd Street, and fans are invited to bring noise makers, confetti, pompoms, American flags, and make banners and posters to join in cheering on the parade around the exercise trails on the east side of the park. After the parade kids can participate in fun soccer skills and drills and enter to win great raffles. For info visit www.palmettobay-fl.gov or call 305-259-1234.

It’s the wild life! On Friday, September 18th at 7:45 at Thalatta Estate Park there will be an outdoor film premiere that sounds really special. Wildlife film maker, Richard Kern will present a documentary film, “Ghost of the Western Glades,” with live narration of his explorations amongst the prairies, tree islands, and swamps of the Big Cypress and the Fakahatchee Strand while encountering some of North America’s rarest flora and fauna. A Q&A follows. RSVP to events@palmettobayfl.gov by September 14. Watch the trailer for the Film Premier at www.odysseyearth.com/ghosts-of-the-western-glades/.

Hot stuff! Those of you who like chili cook-offs, either as a participant or just a foodie, take note of the fact that the Coral Gables Knights of Columbus, Council #3274 has invited civic and social groups compete in the First Annual Chili Cook- Off on Saturday, September 12th at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 270 Catalonia Avenue, Coral Gables. Fire-fighters, police and other community service groups are lining up to demonstrate who makes the best chili, and to win prize donations for their organization. A panel of local chefs will judge the competition. Groups who want to compete can request an entry form and a copy of the rules by email at kocchili@ gmail.com. Entry forms must be submitted by September 4. There is no fee to enter. The Chili Cook-Off is open to the public from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. VIP admission is $15 per person with entrance at 2 p.m. and General admission $10 per person with entrance at 4 p.m. Children under 12 admitted free. With any admission, starting at 6 p.m. to closing, visitors are allowed to freely taste the chili dishes from all the competing teams. There will also be burgers, chicken tenders, fries, sodas and beer for sale. Live music.

For tickets call 305-662-4742.
