‘Pretty Delicious’ features lean and lovely recipes

By Bari Auerbach….
Heralded as “The most irresistibly beautiful collection of health-conscious recipes ever” -“Pretty Delicious” is the first new cookbook by Candice Kumai, co-host of the hit Lifetime series, Cook Yourself Thin.

In “Pretty Delicious: Lean and Lovely Recipes for a Healthy, Happy New You” Kumai divulges delicious secrets for staying slim, saving money, cooking and eating well. The cookbook, promising to “kill dieting forever,”  offers recipes for everything from satisfying breakfasts and elegant salads to hearty entrees – all low in calories and “bad” fats and loaded with good-for-you FWBs (Foods with Benefits) making every bite count toward good health.

Kumai encourages men and women of all ages to obtain optimum health and wellness through their food. She believes in “thinking outside the box” – literally putting packaged food down and rediscovering what real food is again.

“Get over that 1980’s term ‘dieting’ and start ‘living’ again! ” Kumai emphasizes, “If you took a few moments to work on preventative measures to stay healthy, fit and acquired more knowledge about what you are consuming on a day to day basis, you would never ever have to even come to the day where the lap-band became an option.

“I’ve dedicated my life to simply creating awareness to getting proper nutrition into our lives. Improve your diet and your lifestyle – then you will slowly see everything in your world magically seem to fall in place. No more pills, depression, fatty love handles or sluggish days ahead of you.” Kumai suggest a few rules of thumb to remember:

* If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, it’s chemical junk
* If it’s pre-packaged with a label that says, “low-fat, low-carb, low-cal, sugar free (aka chemicals!), fat free” – put it down and go for that organic apple, kale greens or  blueberries instead.  Dried fruit and nutty nuts are great options to snack on
* Become a clever cook…think about making recipes that can last the whole week. Cook with quinoa, barley, oats in bulk and have some veggies, fresh fruits and dried herbs and spices on hand

Kumai recently appeared on the Today Show to suggest delicious, healthful “Girls’ Night In” recipes including Spinach Artichoke Dip and Chinese Chicken Salad Chop Cups. Her website and cookbook also feature delicious, light recipes for innovative creations including Carmelized Pear and Gorgonzoloa Cheese Flatbread; Skinny Thighs French Fries; Spiced Pumpkin Gnocchi; Skinny, Sexy Spaghetti Squash; Homemade Granola Bars; Sunday Brunch Scones; and Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread.
