Talk about generating success! FPL and its parent company, NextEra Energy, recently hosted an Aventura Marketing Council Chairman’s Roundtable luncheon uniting business and community leaders for the enlightening event at Christine Lee’s at Gulfstream Park.

AMC Chair Cliff Schulman of Weiss, Serota, Helfman joined by AMC board member Aletha Player, FPL’s Miami-Dade manager of external affairs, helped greet guests and welcome keynote speaker Pamela Rauch, FPL’s Corporate Vice President of Development & External Affairs.

Rauch explained, “FPL is a subsidiary of NextEra Energy. We’re one of the country’s leading, clean energy companies; the second-largest producer of electricity; and also the second-largest investor of capital in the country. FPL’s sister company, NextEra Energy Resources, is the U.S. leader in renewable generation, operating in 26 states and Canada.

“FPL serves 35 counties and 200 cities providing customers with electricity that is low cost, reliable and clean. In the last three years, we’ve constructed 30 solar facilities in Florida, producing over 3,500 jobs. In 2010 alone, FPL invested more than $2.5 billion in Florida; employed 11,000 people; and over $800 million was sourced with Florida businesses. We’re also the largest taxpayer in all the counties we serve.

“Our typical residential customer bills are the lowest among Florida’s 55 electric utilities – and we plan to keep bills lower in the future by investing over $11 billion in major capital projects including new highefficiency, combined-cycle natural gas generation; increased zeroemissions nuclear capacity; and more intelligent automated infrastructure features.”

Generating even greater success, FPL has a new Office of Economic Development created to help attract new businesses to the state; and now, discounted electric rates are available to new or expanding businesses. For more information, visit poweringflorida.com

Closing on a bright note, Rauch said, “FPL is committed to giving back and being your community partner. We provide nonprofit and home energy makeovers; set up solar education stations; conduct teacher workshops; and contribute to worthy causes. Last year alone, FPL donated over $1 million to United Way of Miami-Dade.

“FPL’s ‘New Year’s resolution’ is to continue implementing capital investments and economic development initiatives to keep customers’ bills low and ensure 2012 is the best year yet for the community and the state.”
