‘Holiday diet strategies’ endorses by Dr. Oz

By Bari Auerbach….
Dr. Mehmet Oz continuously encourages overweight viewers of his TV show to get back on track by losing at least ten pounds with his “Just 10 Diet Plan.” But since holiday parties are making the “Just 10” health challenge even tougher, Dr. Oz enlisted the assistance of Dr. Michael Roizen, Chief Wellness Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, to present helpful tips since this is the time of year responsible for almost all weight gain.

 Three Rules to Survive Parties
1. Prepare a pre-party pack with choices like nuts and low-fat string cheese
2. No stacking your plate – there should be space between the foods
3. Have a 100 calorie cocktail – one serving of eggnog can have as much as 450 calories. Instead, opt for a wine spritzer that has only 100 calories.

Stand Up to Sweets
Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen suggest buying sweets to a take to a party instead of baking them so you won’t be tempted to eat a lot and get a sugar high before even leaving the house. They also believe in the effective “eye your pie” strategy – which means pick only one dessert to eat that you like best.

Eating Out While Shopping
“Eat before you shop” or pack a snack like trail mix is the doctors’ best advice – but if you do decide to visit a food court at a mall, try sharing a slice of pizza with a friend or opting for a healthful salad.

More Recipes For Diet Success

* Cut out sugary sodas

* Don’t eat snacks larger than your fist

* Don’t eat after 8 p.m.

 Accountability
Weigh yourself twice a week and write down what you’re eating at parties since “accountability” can help you keep count of how many calories you’re consuming. This holiday season, Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen agree, “Staying true to your diet is the greatest gift of all!”
