Last year, South Florida experienced some of the most extreme cases of bullying across the nation including two brutal attacks at Deerfield Beach Middle School. Looking ahead to a new school year and a clean slate, organizations like Success For Kids, a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, are rallying to help empower at-risk children and adolescents to become resilient, productive citizens with the hopes of reducing what has become an epidemic of cruel behavior among today’s youth.
SFK is one of the few privately funded organizations currently integrated into existing school curricula. As a preventative Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program, SFK provides children with life skills and universal tools that teach them how to make wise choices. Children learn lessons of cause and effect, which increases a sense of responsibility for their behavior and a tolerance towards others. SFK works closely with educators, parents and community leaders to ensure that children are empowered to overcome challenges, helping them to reach their full potential.
Since coming to South Florida, SFK- Success for Kids has been able to reach over 8,000 children. This year another 1,400 kids will go through the program yet there are still thousands in South Florida alone who could use the skills taught by this invaluable organization. In order to raise funds to increase their reach and attain their goal of reaching every child in South Florida, SFK will be putting together its first 5K Run for Success in Aventura Mall on Sunday, December 5th.
The SFK 5K will feature two-time Grammy Award winner Jon Secada, The Miami Heat Dancers, Bernie and much more for runners, walkers and spectators to enjoy. The 5K will also serve as an incredible platform to introduce SFK on a grand scale to the South Florida Community while also incorporating a great run/walk for the family to enjoy.
Lastly, from now till race day or while raffle tickets remain SFK will be selling tickets for the chance to win a limited edition 2011 SmartCar. The drawing for the lucky winner will take place onsite race day.
