ADL 2010 Aventura Community of Respect Awards Luncheon

The Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL’s) Aventura Community of Respect Awards Luncheon will take place on Wed., Dec. 1st honoring Norman Leopold, Leopold Korn Leopold & Snyder, P.A., with the ADL Torch of Liberty Award; Enid Weisman, Assistant Superintendent, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, with the ADL Community of Respect Award; and State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle with the ADL Distinguished Public Service Award. The event will be chaired by Michael S. Yavner and Mel Kartzmer.

“All three honorees are very deserving of their ADL awards. Their leadership roles within the community give them strong platforms to promote diversity and encourage the fostering of an environment free of hate and prejudice,” stated Mel Kartzmer, event co-chair. “It is because of leaders such as Katherine, Norman and Enid that we continue to build a community that advances the cause of human rights and fulfills ADL’s mission of securing justice and fair treatment for all.”

The Anti-Defamation League is one of the nation’s leading civil rights and human relations organizations. Its mission is to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, to secure justice and fair treatment to all, and to put an end to unjust and unfair discrimination. Funds raised from this event will benefit the Anti-Defamation League and its local programs that serve to educate, protect and serve the South Florida community.

“For years, ADL has had a presence in the Aventura community. However, just last month three exciting new initiatives were brought to our area,” stated event co-chair Michael Yavner of BNY Mellon Wealth Management. “The first ADL Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting was held in our great city. PAC lends vital expertise to ADL by encouraging consideration of planned giving vehicles and opportunities among potential benefactors. In addition, the first Glass Leadership Institute (GLI) class in Aventura was held in September. GLI educates committed young leaders about ADL’s mission. I am also very proud to say that ADL recognized the Aventura City of Excellence School as NO PLACE for HATE® last month during a special banner ceremony in recognition of the school’s activities over the last year to reduce prejudice.”

ADL would like to give a special thanks to our generous corporate sponsors: Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, Leopold Korn Leopold & Snyder P.A., and BNY Mellon.
