Aventura’s Founders Day celebration ‘greatest in history’

By Bari Auerbach….

Aventura’s Founders Day has something for everyone.

This year, Aventura’s Founders Day extravaganza promises to be the “greatest in history” celebrating fifteen years of growth and progress topped off by the most recent milestone event: The debut of the magnificent new Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, earning rave reviews from all over South Florida.

History in the making will begin on Sunday, Nov. 7 at noon and continue until 5 p.m. when Founders Park Bayside will feature food and fun activities for the whole family including arts and crafts, airbrush tattoos, face painting, rock climbing walls, a Toddler Town play area, puppet shows, mobile arcade, an exciting What’s the Deal game show, plus two big screen LCD TVs to watch the Miami Dolphins game.

Once again, the 15th annual Founders Day will showcase an “Aventura History and Highlights” slideshow showcasing the city’s monumental achievements since incorporating – including the “history lesson in forwardthinking” opening of the Aventura City of Excellence School.

Everyone’s also looking forward to enjoying the historically impressive talents of contestants vying to win the 8th annual Aventura Star Talent Competition finals plus fabulous musical entertainment presented by Jimmy Stowe and the Castaways and a renowned Jimmy Buffet tribute band.

Anyone still a novice about city history should know that every year, Founders Day commemorates the creation of the City by community leaders. The process took over three years and then, following a landslide vote in favor of incorporation and ratification of the City Charter, Aventura officially became a city on Nov. 7, 1995. Since then, something to really celebrate is the city’s tax rate has remained the lowest in Miami-Dade County.

“Fifteen years of excellence can be attributed to the efforts of all those who fought to make Aventura a city, the vision of elected officials and a desire to be the best,” said Aventura City Manager Eric M. Soroka. “We have a dedicated and progressive City Commission committed to progress and ensuring Aventura continues to be the City of Excellence.”

Founders Park Bayside is located at 3105 Northeast 190th Street across from Founders Park. Parking and shuttles will be available at Harbour Centre beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Aventura Express will operate from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Due to this special event, please note changes in park hours: Founders Park Bayside will be closed Nov. 2-Nov. 6 and will re-open Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 8 a.m.)

JOIN IN HONORING HISTORY’S GREAT HEROES

The City of Aventura’s Veterans Day ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m. at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center (3385 Northeast 188th Street). The event remembering and recognizing all the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces will feature participation from local veterans groups, patriotic performances by the Aventura City of Excellence School chorus, a World War II display and special guest speaker from the United States Southern Command.
