The magnificent new Aventura Arts & Cultural Center managed by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts was the impressive venue for the Aventura Marketing Council’s August breakfast meeting featuring Kelley Shanley, President and CEO of the Performing Arts Center Authority/Broward Center and a breathtaking performance by Next Step Dance. “Understudying” for AMC Chair Cliff Schulman of Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Bob Hollander of Brown & Brown Insurance helped welcome business and community leaders to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center gracing Northeast 188th Street – set to present a wide range of performing arts and cultural programming options for patrons of all ages.

Taking center stage on behalf of the City of Aventura, Mayor Susan Gottlieb noted, “It is with great pride that I welcome all of you to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center – built on time and on budget, incurring no new debt for the city.” The Mayor also acknowledged many key players who played a starring role in building the 325- seat, state-of-the-art theater including members of the City Commission, City Manager Eric M. Soroka, the architectural firm of PGAL, Suffolk Construction Company and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts management team headed by Kelley Shanley. Steve Clark, General Manager for the Center was also recognized for his leadership.

“This landmark theater will provide a wide range of cultural and educational opportunities for all age groups, all ethnicities, all of our residents and neighbors to enjoy,” Gottlieb said. “We encourage everyone to participate and take advantage of available sponsorships acknowledging friends, family and businesses to help underwrite programming. Our gala grand opening event will be October 23 presented by Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company starring Tony Award winner Patti LuPone – one of the greatest performers in modern musical theater.” Shining an even brighter spotlight on the “extraordinary new world of cultural opportunities” the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center will bring to South Florida, Shanley emphasized, “Aventura is not only creating a nice amenity for its community – it’s enhancing the quality of life that’s going to attract the most qualified people to support all of you in your businesses and encourage economic development here in Aventura.

“The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center will also play a big role in building bridges between cultures; encouraging community involvement; and promoting quality education – helping to create students that learn better, achieve more and become the creative, problem solving, successful, worldready citizens the local workforce wants.

“As management, it’s incumbent upon us to maximize the value in all of these areas. We’ve done it successfully for many years and because the Broward Center is involved, this community has access to a team of some of the most qualified and experienced people in the nation.”

The meeting’s next act featured Next Step Dance – “taking dance to a new level” under the artistic direction of William Charles Crowley. Next Step Dance, returning to Aventura for repeat performances this fall, is committed to the creation and presentation of contemporary dance, drawing inspiration from the rich traditions found in music, art, and literature reflecting the diverse cultures within both local and global communities.

Before the curtain closed, a lucky AMC doorprize winner received tickets to Jim Witter’s “The Piano Men” – a tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John coming to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center Nov. 12.
