Aventura City of Excellence School, (ACES) and the City of Aventura 2010 Peace Day Program “Building Peace Through Leadership – Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders” was a remarkable experience that joined ACES 4th and 6th grade students, staff, parents, and the Aventura community together at the new Aventura Arts and Cultural Center (AACC).
A beautiful gallery displayed student art expressions on “Peace and Leadership.” Aventura Mayor Susan Gottlieb along with Commissioners and City Manager Eric Soroka were on hand to deliver the official proclamation. The program featured student art, essays, and poetry winners, ACES new National Junior Honor Society led by Ms. Eizenbaum, a keynote presentation by the Anti- Defamation League, the Middle School Dance Troupe and a spectacular DVD production by the Nicolella family highlighting students, staff and administrative discussions on how Peace is built through Leadership at ACES and in the world.
ADL Florida Regional Director, Andrew Rosenkranz stated, “ADL is proud to designate Aventura City of Excellence School as a No Place for Hate® School. Students and teachers work together to foster a bias-free environment in a school that embraces diversity and teaches the next generation how to build bridges of understanding and respect for differences.”
Parent Rosane Alves-Garcia led ACES Good Samaritan program, where students collected 560 gift boxes filled with essential items for needy children, destined for international distribution.
“The City of Aventura is committed to building peace through their leadership,” stated ACES Principal Julie Alm. “As a testament to this commitment, the city has proclaimed today a day of peace in the city. Today’s ceremony demonstrates that our leaders of tomorrow are being recognized as substantial citizens today.”
