Aventura Hospital and Medical Center has received designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), joining an elite group of healthcare facilities statewide that provide lifesaving stroke care.
Aventura Hospital is one of only three centers in Miami-Dade County with this designation, which nationally recognizes the hospital for providing the highest quality care for patients diagnosed with stroke.
“This distinction validates the excellence in care that our team of physicians, nurses and staff consistently provide to our patients and I am thrilled that we have been named a Comprehensive Stroke Center,” said Heather J. Rohan, chief executive officer at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. “We are proud to offer our community with resources to achieve better outcomes after a stroke.”
The stroke intervention team at Aventura Hospital routinely meet and surpass the principles for stroke care by:
• exceeding the national average of 90 minutes for patients receive treatment from their arrival at the Emergency Department;
• working with a neuro-interventionist to assist in identifying key symptoms, diagnosing patients and quickly assessing treatment options to improve patient outcomes;
• providing stroke-specific care in its Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit outfitted with specially trained nurses and staff; and including an all-encompassing post-stroke plan of care that includes leading-edge surgery and physical, occupational and speech therapy.
