Herb and Gloria Barker, owners of Barker Animation Art Galleries in The Village at Gulfstream Park and the Promenade Shops at Coconut Creek, recently partnered with the Aventura Marketing Council, serving as the community’s Chamber of Commerce for over 27 years, for the fourth year for their “Art from the Heart” program.
Each year, they donate artwork to Aventura Marketing Council member charities, non-profits or schools. This year, there were 75 organizations that each received five beautiful pieces of artwork valued at $2,375.
Gloria Barker said, “I want to keep living so I can keep giving!”
Hosted by Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Executive Director Elliot Karp welcomed the guests and introduced Emcee, Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman.
The recipient organizations had the option to sell the artwork, present it to a major sponsor or brighten a child’s hospital room….there were no strings attached to the Barkers’ generous donations.
Best known for their philanthropic contributions, the Barkers have donated over $2 million in animation artwork to children’s hospitals during the last ten years. They have also donated over $250,000 of artwork to JAFCO, Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options, $100,000 of artwork to the Broward Boys and Girls Club and were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for their donations.
Some of their major hospital donation recipients include: Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital, Aventura Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center.
