A recent visit to the area by Yoav Appelboim, executive director of Ahava Village for Children and Youth at Risk, helped solidify a fundraising campaign that’s being undertaken by a group from the Southeast Region Bnai Zion Foundation.

Held at the Mo’s Bagels in Aventura, the gathering put Ahava Village gradate Orit Uziel in the spotlight and included an active outdoor discussion, says Eileen Glastein, director of the Southeast Region for the Bnai Zion Foundation.

Uziel, a member of the Israel Defense Forces and a graduate of Ahava, proved very passionate about growing up at Ahava Village, which is a center for children ages 6-19 from what are considered high-risk situations at home.

The Bnai Zion group of young professionals from Broward and Miami-Dade counties has elected to support the Ahava Village, setting up as “Allies for Ahava,” Glastein says.

“Having the opportunity to share some time with a young lady who lived there from age 12 was very meaningful for the group of delegates,” she says. “Having the executive director here to answer any questions brought everything to a very personal level.”

She says Allies for Ahava is now gearing up for future fundraising.

“The board will host events on its behalf,” Glastein says, “with each delegate holding his or her own event to reach a goal of $5,000.”

She says Ahava Village for Children & Youth is designed to help children overcome the stresses of severely dysfunctional backgrounds by offering apartment-style residences and a variety of activities and therapies.

“For Allies for Ahava,” Glastein says, “it’s a great way to have fun and at the same do something that will impact and improve lives.”
