The new Duffy’s Sports Grill in North Miami Beach scored major points for giving back when the “largest sports grill in South Florida” hosted a gala grand opening networking reception showcasing 26 Aventura Marketing Council member charities, nonprofits and the military. The summer’s biggest event yet was played out perfectly in partnership with the Greater North Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, ESGR-Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; and Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces.

Duffy’s proprietor Paul Emmett helped welcome a huge turnout of over 700 fans to the first Miami-Dade Duffy’s location at the Intracoastal Mall spanning over 25,000 square feet with 700 seats, 500 feet of dockage and 200 plasma TVs ideal for watching favorite games… Duffy’s is the official sports grill of the HEAT, Dolphins, Marlins and Panthers.

AMC business and community leaders invited to the all-star evening enjoyed fabulous hors d’oeuvres, live music plus the opportunity to meet sports celebrities including NBA alumni and Hall-of-Famer Dennis Rodman and beautiful Florida International University cheerleaders a/k/a “Duffy’s Mermaids,” floating around the swimming pool overlooking equally stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Chair massages courtesy of Equinox Fitness at Aventura Mall and Berman Chiropractic Center also helped everyone relax and enjoy the fun, casual atmosphere at Duffy’s in North Miami Beach – the 24th outpost for the Palm Beach Gardens-based sports grill named “Best Sports Bar” by WPLG Channel 10 News.

While Duffy’s is renowned for the $6.99 weekday lunch; $7.95 weekend brunch; 2-4-1 daily Happy Hours; party menus; six styles of chicken wings; and sports bar classics like coconut crusted dolphin fingers, Thai chicken curry, Angus cheeseburgers, loaded potato skins and the best NY Reuben – “giving back” is one of the sports grill’s greatest claims to fame. During the evening, AMC charities were generously given display tables, $100 Duffy’s dining gift cards and the opportunity to win 100% of proceeds from the cash bar totaling nearly $4,000.

Participating charities included: Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Sr. High; Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Sr. High; American Cancer Society; Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center; Aventura Waterways K-8 Center; Bnai Zion Foundation; City of Hope; Dr. Michael M. Krop Sr. High; Florida International University, Biscayne Bay Campus; Food for the Poor; Humane Society of Greater Miami; Int. Assoc. of Jewish Public Safety Employees; Jr. Achievement Greater Miami; Kabbalah Centre; Miami Dolphins Foundation; Miami Jewish Health Systems; Rotary Club of Hallandale Beach/Aventura; The Sabrina Cohen Foundation for Stem Cell Research; South Florida Shomrim Society; Sunshine Kids; and The Victory School for Autism.

Three charities / schools split the proceeds of the cash bar, winning $1,100 each; ENV/Environmental News Online; North Miami Beach Sr. High; and Miami-Dade College North Campus.

The event’s next highlight was an official ribbon-cutting ceremony with MVP elected officials including North Miami Beach Mayor George Vallejo, Vice Mayor Philippe Derose, Councilwomen Phyllis Smith, Beth Spiegel, Barbara Kramer and Marlen Martell; and Aventura Comm. Michael Stern.

Expressing appreciation to everyone joining in the grand opening celebration and mission to “Give back,” Paul Emmett said, “Duffy’s is very proud to have members of our military with us tonight… we would like to join the many companies that are committed to priority hiring for military veterans and that help support worthy charities, non-profit organizations and schools.”
