FIU’s cultural series celebrates Chinese New Year with dinner and a movie on February 5th

FIU- Chinese New YearFlorida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus presents the first Prestige Cultural Series event of 2015 on February 5th in the Kovens Conference Center ballroom at 6:00 pm.

This event will celebrate the Chinese New Year and will be accompanied with Chinese dinner as well as the Chinese film “Together” hosted by film aficionado, Shelly Isaacs. The Prestige Cultural Series is an annual campus outreach program. This year, the series partnered with FIU’s School of Music and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

“It is important for us to embrace our Chinese culture,” said Sydney Chow, FIU student. “I am bringing my young cousin to this event so she, too, can learn more about her heritage.”

Proceeds for this event benefit OLLI. This program provides education, learning and cultural opportunities for all adult members of the community who wish to enrich their lives.

“We are thrilled to partner again with our community sponsors to present the Prestige Cultural Series featuring FIU performers and faculty from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute,” said Steven V. Moll, Vice Provost of BBC.

The final event of the Prestige Cultural Series “Jazz Mixer” will feature FIU’s Jazz Vocal Studio performers. This event will take place on Sunday, March 29th at 4:00 p.m. and will include a pre-reception. Students from FIU’s School of Music will perform jazz favorites.

The Prestige Cultural Series is sponsored by the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Bal Harbour Village, the Town of Golden Beach, Dr. Jules Oaklander, The Honorable and Mrs. Billy Joel, The George and Ida Mestel Foundation, Herbert Gruber and Donna Steffens, Sandra Lansing, and Jan and Harold Solomon.
