Celebrity teams comprised of Miami Dolphins legends and critically-acclaimed, South Florida chefs went head-to-head at this year’s “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine & Tailgate Festival.” Nearly 3,000 attendees sampled fine-dining grilled entrees, paired with premium Gallo wines, while raising over $50,000 for Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation.
Football fans and foodies alike sampled delicious dishes prepared by 25 Miami Dolphins legends and top local chefs. This year’s 2014 Judge’s Choice Champions were former Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder and Chef Chris Miracolo of S3 Restaurant for their Grilled Cobia Fish Taco recipe. This sustainable seafood dish, which takes the long-term vitality of harvested species and the well-being of the oceans into account, was inspired by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and was featured as part of Guy Harvey’s Sustainable Seafood Village.
For the second consecutive year, former Miami Dolphins safety Glenn Blackwood and Chef Victor Franco of Oceans 234 took home the People’s Choice Award for their Espresso and Chocolate Crusted Filet Mignon.
“This year’s competition was better than ever with great food, record attendance and unwavering support from Miami Dolphins legends and top local restaurants in the spirit of giving,” said John Offerdahl, event founder and former Miami Dolphins All-Pro Linebacker. “We want to thank the community for supporting this event each year and joining us to help feed the needs of kids in crisis.”
Other teams served up incredible menu items, including Jim “Crash” Jensen’s Chipotle Wagyu Ribs from Grille 401, Shawn Wooden’s Josper Grilled Skirt Steak with Brussels Sprouts from 13 American Table, Louis Oliver’s Graised Ox Tail with Horseradish Panna Cotta from The Biltmore and Zach Thomas’s Salmon Tartare Dip with Guacamole and Margarita Vinaigrette from 15th Street Fisheries.
The event culminated with more lively competition at the Toyota Cornhole Stadium where attendees had the opportunity to join forces with the Dolphins legends, chefs and media personalities in the 2014 Cornhole Tournament. This year’s championship team was comprised of former safety, Shawn Wooden, Chef Anthony Fiorini from 13 American Table, Andy Preston from 97.3 The Gater.
All of the proceeds from this tribute to football, food and charity benefit Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation, which directs funds to agencies that “Feed the Needs of Kids in Crisis,” including 4KIDS of South Florida, HOPE South Florida, Here’s Help, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Educational Foundation, Miami Dolphins Foundation and Taste of the NFL.
