Manny Miranda leads the power delivery unit responsible for providing reliable, affordable electricity to 4.7 million FPL customers

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced that Manny Miranda, vice president of power delivery for FPL, has been recognized by theAssociation of Cuban Engineers (ACE) as the organization’s 2014 Engineer of the Year. The award was presented at the ACE annual gala, which took place on March 15 in Miami.

“I am extremely humbled that ACE has selected me for this award, particularly as I stand in the shadow of the many Cuban- American engineers who have come before me,” said Miranda. “While this honor is being bestowed upon me, I view this as a reflection of the tremendously talented, hard working professionals at FPL who each and every day demonstrate their commitment to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our 4.7 million customers.”

As vice president of power delivery for FPL, Miranda is responsible for the planning, engineering, construction, maintenance and operations of the company’s transmission, substation and distribution facilities.

Since joining FPL in 1982, Miranda has held a variety of positions including vice president of transmission & substation and vice president of distribution system performance, where he was responsible for FPL’s Storm Secure initiative to substantially strengthen the electric distribution infrastructure against future hurricanes.

“The Association of Cuban Engineers ‘Engineer of theYear’Award, the most prestigious award given by the association, honors a distinguished engineer who has made significant contributions to the profession through organizational leadership, administration of engineering products and excellence in the practice of engineering,” said Helena Solo Gabriele, president of ACE.

“Manny Miranda exemplifies this award through his contributions toward planning, engineering, construction, maintenance and operations of FPL’s transmission, substation and distribution facilities.”

Miranda holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He serves on the board of governors for Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
