Almost 550 volunteers from throughout Miami-Dade County came out recently for Jewish Community Services to assemble and deliver kosher food baskets for Passover to seniors, the disabled and homebound for the 2013 Matzah Mitzvah & More food distribution event. This year’s gathering was called ‘Planting Seeds of Kindness’ because seniors also received plants in pots hand painted by children as well as handmade Passover cards, activities sponsored by the PJ Library Miami and JCS Kids for Kosher Food Bank.

“This is exciting,” Marian Friedman said about the Frydman family who visited her home. “When I see a group like this I want to cry because my grandchildren and daughter are in Texas, so this is fantastic.” Nurit and Leonardo Frydman, along with Hillary and Jed Frankel and Amy and Greg Saphier, served as Matzah Mitzvah & More Chairpersons.

An important component of this year’s event were the visits to residents of Miami Beach’s senior residential facility, Federation Towers, by the JCS Alliance, JCS’ support group of young professionals whose Committee Chairs were Monica Auslander, Jennifer Kramer, Amy Klosky and Alexandra Lehson.

Matzah Mitzvah & More is one component in JCS’ array of vital nutritional programs, which include a Kosher Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and congregate meal sites.
