MAR-JCC Children’s Health Day 5K Run / 1 Mile Fun Walk, December 19

The JCC 5K Run / 1 Mile Fun Walk will take place on Sunday, December 19h, at 8 a.m., with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m., and a free post-race Children’s Health Day, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center located on the Sanford L. Ziff Campus (18900 NE 25th Avenue, North Miami Beach).

The run is a USATF certified course that will begin on the MAR-JCC campus and head west, wrapping around to NE 22nd Avenue, over to NE 18th Place, and then returning back to the JCC campus. Professionally timed by Split Second Timing, the run will be monitored and managed by volunteers and staff of MARJCC, who will provide water, bagels, and other various healthy snacks. The Miami-Dade Police will also be on hand, blocking roads and making sure the course is safely accessible and easy for runners to navigate. “We are recommending that runners register early, so they may obtain their race day t-shirts in their correct size,” mentions Nancy Carroll, director of sports and wellness at the JCC. Runners will be able to pick up their information packets at the MAR-JCC, on the day of the race. Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals will be awarded to the top three male / female athletes in each age division as well as an award given to male / female overall winner, and male / female masters winner.

This year’s event is different from past races as it places an emphasis on Children’s Health and Wellness with a free Children’s Health Day at the “J” following the race. Join in after the 5K run / 1 mile fun walk from 9 to 11 a.m. for a morning of fun fitness activities and demonstrations for kids including: Basketball Clinic, Fitness Classes, Fit-N-Fun, Kangoo Jumps, Football Clinic, Gymnastics, Soccer Clinic, Spinning, Tennis Clinic, and much more. There will also be informational health stations throughout the event.

“We’re hoping the event will bring awareness to the community regarding the benefits of the Health, Sports, & Wellness programs that the MAR-JCC provides, including programs that promote healthy lifestyle, exercise, and wellness among all different age groups from toddlers to senior citizens,” added Carroll.
