Swedroe Biscardi, a Miami architecture/ design firm owned by partners Laurie Swedroe AIA, Architect and designer Katherine Biscardi, has completed a grandscaled renovation of the major public spaces of the legendary Turnberry Towers condominium in Aventura.
It incorporates the main lobby, elevator lobby, concierge area, circular board room, two social rooms and 28 residential corridors. The extensive renovation reflects the first major updating of the spaces to the 34- year-old, 30-story luxury condominium.
The building, designed by Swedroe’s architect father, Robert, is defined by its timeless International architecture. By raising the lobby ceiling, a panorama of Florida’s beautiful golden light illuminates the impressive space.
Biscardi says, “I drew inspiration from the groin vaulted ceilings and mixed OldWorld elegance with new contemporary implements to honor the timeless look.” In addition a color scheme of blue, brown, gold, white and cognac drew inspiration from the cognac color of existing wood framing the concierge area. Concurrently, resin-coated wall installations introduce lively splashes of color.
Laurie Swedroe, who remembers watching the building being built, says, “Our challenge was to bring the public spaces into the 21st century for the residents of the 294 condominium units. We succeeded in providing a fresh, new, elegant and uplifting look for the handsome building.”
