On Wednesday, May 27, an estimated 100,000 older adults will participate in local fitness activities throughout the country as part of the 22nd annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day, the nation’s largest health promotion event for older adults.
Locally, ViAventura, a luxury continuing care retirement community, is serving as a site for a full day of activities. Seniors will start their day with fitness activities and classes, medical screenings and health information. Aheart healthy lunch will be served and a keynote address on mental health will be presented. Mind, Body and Soul Bingo and a presentation on “Laughter as the Best Medicine” will conclude the day’s activities.
“Older adults at all levels of physical fitness are encouraged to participate in National Senior Health and Fitness Day”, says Marjorie Aloni, Vi Aventura’s Community Relations Manager. “Our goals for Senior Day are to make exercise fun and to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program for older adults. Vi Aventura will be able to show participants in our day the type of regular activities that we regularly offer to our residents, which in turns keeps our residents healthy and happy.”
The May 27th program is offered free of charge to seniors in Aventura and the surrounding communities, however reservations are required for the lunch.
