With two feet and a heartbeat Aventura Hospital kicks-off American Heart Month

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in our nation. Aventura Hospital is committed to fighting cardiovascular disease and educating the public on how to live a heart-healthy life.

On Tuesday, February 1st, Aventura Hospital hosted a special American Heart Month kick-off event at the hospital’s main lobby. Aventura Comm. Bob Diamond presented Aventura Hospital’s CEO Heather Rohan, with a proclamation that declared February 1, 2011, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center American Heart Month.

Aventura Hospital’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Charles Shenker, addressed attendees, along with cardiologist Dr. Enrique Hanabergh who spoke about the importance of being “heart smart,” eating well and exercising. Also in attendance was Gretchen Semancik, the American Heart Association’s South Florida Heart Walk Director. Guests also heard from two former cardiac patients whom shared their positive stories about the care they received at Aventura Hospital.

The event culminated with a “heart walk” around the hospital campus. Dozens of employees, physicians and members of the community participated in the walk. The event closed with a heart-healthy cocktail reception.
