Aventura Marketing Council members recently huddled with Mike Dee, CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium, when the Dolphins and International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 769 co-hosted the AMC’s August breakfast meeting.

Kicking off the event at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, Claudio Stivelman of Shefaor Development, standing in for AMC Chair Cliff Schulman of Weiss, Serota, Helfman, greeted business and community leaders excited about the Dolphins 2012 season and first home games Sept. 16 against the Raiders and Sept. 23 against the Jets at Sun Life Stadium.

On behalf of IBT Local 769, President Mike Scott and Secretary/Treasurer Josh Zivalich noted, “We are an employees’ rights advocacy group involved in politics, education and charitable functions – and we’re definitely ‘pro business!’” Scoring points for representing more than 1.4 million working men and women through the U.S. and Canada, the IBT Union adheres to a philosophy of unity, pride and strength shared by the Miami Dolphins.

Since becoming CEO of the Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium, Dee has focused on assembling a sound, smart and tough football team; enhancing the fan experience; and actively participating in the community.

Tackling some of the team’s recent big decisions, Dee announced, “Ryan Tannehill will be our starting quarterback. Ryan really understands the offense; he’s wise beyond his years; and he ‘eats, sleeps and breathes’ football. This season, we’re going to play an exciting brand of football and the schedule is favorable for us to make some noise!

Talking Super Bowl, Dee explained Sun Life Stadium is bidding for the 50th anniversary Super Bowl game in 2016, which coincides with the Dolphins 50th anniversary season. “It would be great to celebrate these two milestones together in South Florida. We’re also in a very competitive situation for future college championship games that are very important economic drivers and above all – very prestigious events positioning this community as one of the world’s premier sports destinations

“We’re going to take a leadership role working with you to ensure we continue attracting these games. We were fortunate to have ten out of the first 46 Super Bowls played here – and we want ten of the next 50. To do that, we’re going to have to pull together and put our best foot forward.”
