Margaret Nee, vice president of development for Pointe Group Advisors, was installed as president of the Rotary Club of Coconut Grove on Thursday, June 25.

The luncheon ceremony honoring outgoing president Don Kesler and welcoming Nee was attended by 35 Rotarians and friends, and took place at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club.

Nee exemplifies the spirit of Rotary, “Service above Self,” evidenced by her current and past involvement with such organizations as the National Parkinson’s Foundation South Florida Advisory Council, The Underline, Miami Center for Architecture and Design, The Kampong, Kristi House, Access Now, Junior League of Miami and Pet Rescue. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District (BID) and is a past president of CREW-Miami (Commercial Real Estate Women).

Through her community outreach and volunteerism at Pointe Group she has spearheaded Rebuilding Together projects in the West Grove positively impacting more than 75 homes in the Grove.

When she is not working or volunteering “I enjoy kayaking, yoga, needlework and walking my rescue dog, Tino,” Nee said.

Don Kesler, the outgoing president, said, “My two biggest accomplishments are an increase of 30 percent in membership and our club winning the Golden Coconut Award for Best Not-for-Profit Organization awarded by the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce.”

The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove, over the past few years, has donated $50,000 for equipment and educational mentoring to the Titians football and cheerleading programs; $35,000 to the Thelma Gibson Health Initiative; $30,000 to The Columbian Project Global (TCPG), an international micro-lending program run by Coconut Grove Rotarians and former Peace Corps volunteers, and $85,000 to Casa Colibri for medical services and an ambulance to service remote Mayan villages in northwestern Guatemala.

Nee’s board of directors includes Anita Sandler, Don Kesler, Phil Everingham, Steve Arch, Lori Pomeroy, Randy Lakel and Donna Sweeny.

“I want to raise more money and identify a cause or project that we can adopt, cherish and maintain continuity with for years to come in the Grove,” Nee said.
