[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n Saturday, April 25, local Comcast employees and their families, friends and community volunteers will “make change happen” as they join forces with Rebuilding Together Miami Dade to improve the houses of homeowners in need in the Miami Gardens area as part of the 14th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast’s companywide celebration of their year-round commitment to service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort in the country.

More than 800 local Comcast employees, their families and friends and community volunteers will gather to beautify 15 houses in the Miami Gardens area whose homeowners are elderly, disabled and/or veterans in dire need of assistance. Volunteers will work on a variety of projects to improve the neighborhood and these homes, including landscaping, painting, cleaning and preparing care packages for local veterans and elderly residents.

Members of the general public are encouraged to join and can sign up by visiting ComcastintheCommunity.com, searching for projects in the Miami area and selecting the “Rebuild Miami Day” project.  Onsite registration will be available, but participants are encouraged to sign up beforehand to ensure they get a t-shirt

This year in Florida, more than 120 Comcast Cares Day projects are planned in communities from the Panhandle down to the Florida Keys. In 2014, more than 7,300 Florida Comcast employees and their family and friends and community volunteers participated in Comcast Cares Day.

“We’re so proud to partner with Rebuilding Together Miami Dade to improve our community during our 14th Comcast Cares Day,” said Jeanie Hernandez, Director of Government Affairs and Community Investment for Comcast in South Florida. “The hard work of local volunteers who will be donating their time to help make such a big difference in the lives of others is inspiring, and I am thankful to all of our participants who are helping to make Comcast Cares Day a success.”

  1. We are becoming desperate; we are two nurses who worked all our lives helping others & cannot find any assistance when we need ir–our roof is collapsing over our back porch & we spent all our savings on fixing the outside of the house. We have had no air conditioning for several years & ruined our health taking care of patients. We got an estimate of $2300 for the roof & around $1700 to fix the air conditioning. We are using food banks & our neighbors are feeding us their leftovers. No help available from either family. Poor credit & very poor health. When we hired people to clean out our house & repair it, they stole our prescriptions, jewelry, money, handguns & even my car which we have never seen again. I love the Florida people but I am so sorry I moved here ; it has ruined both our lives. We have very little hope for any kind of a better future. We would be thankful for any advice or support we could get.
    Thank you,
