the_childrens_trust_logo_color-rgb_2Reaffirming its commitment to serving children and families in Miami-Dade, The Children’s Trust has announced its recommendation to fund after-school and summer programs at 206 locations across Miami-Dade County, representing a nearly $90 million investment to be awarded in annual installments of $29.7 during the next three years.

The funding will benefit established institutions as well as grassroots, community-based organizations to provide the best services available to all children, and particularly in neighborhoods with the highest rates of poverty. All programs will serve children with disabilities.

“After-school and summer programs are essential to helping thousands of children succeed in school and provide critical support to working parents,” said Charles Auslander, President and CEO of The Children’s Trust. “In low-income neighborhoods, these programs are particularly important because of the academic help and safe environment they provide, in addition to the mentoring of caring, qualified staff.”

Among the largest recommended awards include the following agencies:

  • The ARC of South Florida, $1,900,000 annually
  • Gang Alternatives, $1,112,799 annually
  • Hope for Miami, $1,070,305 annually
  • Thomas Armour Youth Ballet, $1,010,000 annually

A complete list of awards, site locations, and maps are available at www.thechildrenstrust.org. Recommended award amounts may fluctuate slightly after all appeals are considered.

Other three-year funding commitments for programs in the areas of parenting, youth enrichment, early childhood development, school health, and literacy will be announced in the coming weeks representing a total of $190 million in new investments to serve children and families.  All recurring funding at awarded amounts are subject to annual program performance reviews and consistent incoming revenues.

The first round of funding recommendations will be finalized at a regularly scheduled, publicly noticed Board of Directors meeting.
