Millennials turn a house into a home at Center for Family and Child Enrichment

United Way of Miami-Dade’s newest volunteer group, LINC (Lead. Impact. Network. Change.) held its first volunteer project at The Center for Family and Child Enrichment, a United Way partner dedicated to serving children in foster care who have been abused, neglected and/or abandoned.  The project was sponsored by Universal American Mortgage Company.

More than 50 volunteers worked on a number of indoor and outdoor renovations at Pearl’s House, a group home for six displaced teenage girls.  Volunteers landscaped the front and back of the house; planted vegetable gardens, decorative plants, two palm trees and mulch; painted select interior walls; donated and installed shelving, curtains, decorations and storage racks; and built wood caddies for each girl and filled them with handmade body scrubs.

LINC (Lead. Impact. Network. Change.) is a new volunteer group focused on harnessing the power of the growing millennial generation. LINC engages early-career individuals who are passionate about the same issues as United Way − helping people find a way forward in the areas of education, financial stability and health — the building blocks for a good life.

LINC members are 30 and under, make an annual gift of $250 or more and lend their knowledge, expertise and time to strengthen Miami.  They participate in unique volunteer and service projects, as well as personal and professional development opportunities.  As with every United Way volunteer group, LINC is led by an executive committee of LINC members from diverse backgrounds and workplaces.  The committee is tasked with developing the goals and shaping the work of the overall group.  All LINC annual donations will benefit United Way’s work in education, financial stability and health.
