Classical South Florida (CSF) will once again honor some outstanding individuals and organizations that continue to make vital contributions to the arts in South Florida, thanks to the generous support of Dr. Sanford L. and Beatrice Ziff.

The fifth annual Ziff Awards Luncheon takes place on Friday, January 30th at the historic Biltmore Hotel, at 1200 Anastasia Avenue in Coral Gables starting at 11:15 a.m. Guests will enjoy socializing with fellow arts lovers during the social hour and a special live musical presentation during lunch, followed by the recognition of Classical South Florida Leadership Circle Members and the awards ceremony.

“Dr. Sanford L. and Beatrice Ziff have continued to support Classical South Florida over the years,” said Néstor Rodriguez, President of CSF. “In fact, Dr. Ziff demonstrated his love and commitment for classical music and to the success of Classical South Florida 89.7 with his gift of a million dollars seven years ago. It was a crucial time for our fledgling member-supported radio station and his financial support provided us with a strong foundation. His on-going support has encouraged others to make contributions.”

This year’s Ziff Award Honorees reflect a wide ranging group of individuals and organizations that enrich the lives of South Floridians through the arts. Honorees are: Rose Ellen Meyerhoff Greene, Beth Holland, Dr. Richard and Bobbi Litt, The New World Symphony, the Palm Beach Opera, Sebastian Spreng and Doreen Marx and Byron Krulewitch.

Much loved in the Miami area, Doreen and Byron are the wife and husband-team of Sunday Afternoons of Music. For 33 years, they presented a series of recitals and chamber concerts, first at Temple Beth Am and then at the University of Miami’s Gusman Hall, where the last concert was held on May 18, 2014. Doreen led the organization as executive director and Byron, a professional registered engineer, served as financial manager.

In addition to bringing established, world renowned musicians to Miami, they also had a knack for presenting rising stars such as sopranos Dawn Upshaw, Elizabeth Caballero, Nadine Sierra and pianist Olga Kern. Doreen and Byron also created a separate series just for children that for 28 years ran concurrently with the adult series.
