Alzheimer’s Association recruiting teams for Walk To End Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Miami-Dade residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by starting their own team for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Museum Park in downtown Miami.

Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s teams will raise funds and awareness while having fun as they complete a two-mile walk.

During the Walk participants will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants also will join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

“I walk because I miss my mom; I miss her calls;. I miss her visits; I miss her remembering moments I will never forget,” said Elizabeth M. Rodriguez, co-chair of the Miami-Dade Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “I miss her nurture; I miss her knowing who I am and how much I love her.

“To stand and watch her become a shadow of the woman I once knew gives me all the motivation in the world to walk a million miles. Alzheimer’s is stealing my mom away so I walk alongside the Alzheimer’s Association to fight and spare anyone this pain,” Rodriguez added.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, the only disease among the top 10 causes of death that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Florida alone, there are more than 520,000 people living with the disease and 1.1 million caregivers.

Register today; sign up as a team captain; join a team or register to walk as an individual at alz.org/walk or get more information by calling 1-800-272-3900.
