The Barnacle Society celebrates Commodore Munroe's birthday

The Barnacle Society celebrates Commodore Munroe's birthdayMembers of the board of directors of The Barnacle Society gather during the “Bash on the Bay” fundraiser and dinner celebration on Mar. 25 in honor of the 166th birthday of Ralph Middleton Munroe. One of Coconut Grove’s earliest pioneers, Munroe inhabited the house built in 1891, now called The Barnacle State Historic Park. Some even say Alyn Pruett, president of The Barnacle Society, (far right) strongly favors Munroe who also served as Commadore of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. Situated on the shore of Biscayne Bay, the beautiful home at 3485 Main Hwy. and its charming boathouse offer a glimpse of frontier life during a time when all travel to and from Miami was by boat.
