Are you EMV ready? Well, the merchants at Bayside Marketplace are leading the way to becoming E-Chip compliant. By October 2015, all credit cards will be imbedded with a high tech chip that will improve payment security. The City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and E-Chip Miami identified Bayside as the kick off location for the integration of “E-Chip Miami Readiness”, the new chip based credit and debit card cryptographic technology.
A private event was event was held on Thursday August 7th onboard the luxury yacht The Biscayne Lady, docked at Bayside. Hosted by Mayor Tomas Regalado and Bayside Marketplace Senior General Manager Pamela Weller, the event showcased the E-Chip Miami Readiness implementation services. Merchants also had the opportunity to meet with various payment networks for additional information on the new technology and how to sign up for the program. “Actually, what this is going to do is to limit the credit card fraud throughout Bayside Marketplace and increase traffic and sales,” said Senior General Manager Pamela Weller.
EMV is an acronym for Europay Mastercard Visa and is a trademark chip based technology with global acceptance standards. It was developed and implemented in Europe when fraud escalated to extreme levels throughout the region and ultimately swept the world due to its success in decreasing fraud. Currently, South Florida has experienced close to 100% increase in fraud from last year to this year.
The kickoff event for the E-Chip Miami Readiness program is set to launch at Bayside Marketplace on Small Business Saturday, November 29th. Following the event at Bayside, E-Chip Miami along with its partners will be launching all of Miami Dade and Broward Counties.
