Bed Racers to push for charity of their choice

South Florida bed racing fans can consider this year’s event in Coconut Grove increased in desire. It was announced recently that this year’s racers will choose their own charity to push for, literally and put personal passion into their racing.

A bed on wheels, five-member teams and a worthy cause worth running for will hit the streets in Coconut Grove in November. Veteran MC Vanilla Ice Ice Baby returns with iHeart Media’s Mobile Mike along with some soonto- be-announced celebrities getting in on the action. Live music, family fun and, of course, wacky bed racers sprinting from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Registration is open at

The event will feature 40 teams in four divisions; Co-Ed, Corporate (over 30 years of age), Women’s and Men’s. Teams are made up of corporations, bars, restaurants, charities, groups, and clubs. Miami officials, entertainers, friends and family all get together to race real beds mounted on wheels.

After seven years of the bed racing, the 2015 festival evolves with more live music, Craft Beer by Miami’s Concrete Beach Brewery, food pairings by local restaurants, and entertainment for kids age 7 to 70.

Schedule of Events:
11a.m., Family fun and performances by the Hip Hop Kidz;
Noon, Pit Row Parade and celebrity judging;
1 p.m., Race to the finish line;
5 p.m., Finale, prizes and awards.

Top prizes of the day are not for speed though, the fans vote for “Crowd Favorite” with donations going to the team’s charity through the new voting and challenge app “ChallengeStar.” “Best Decor,” “Best Engineered” and “Funniest” beds are chosen by the celebrity judges and sponsored gifts and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Want to be in it for speed? The trophy for fastest race team in each division also comes with extreme bragging rights.
