CMX luxury theater opens at Brickell City Centre

The lavish interior of the CMX theater

CMX, a luxury cinema company, opened its first U.S. theater at the Brickell City Centre on Apr. 24, not far from the Brickell Metrorail Station. CMX is a subsidiary of Cinemex, the sixth-largest movie theater chain in the world.

The theater complex has 35,759 square feet of theater space, 10 viewing rooms, cutting-edge audiovisual technology and full-service gourmet dining, offering moviegoers an ultimate upscale experience. The cinema also features a well-appointed lounge and bar area. “Ninja waiters” move about quietly to bring movie-goers the food and drinks they have ordered.

Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, a national independent restaurant group, partnered with CMX to develop the cinema’s menu. Menu items include Miami-inspired Cuban egg rolls, Alaskan king crab rolls, fresh tuna crudo, tavern-style margherita pizzas and tropical piña colada cake. An assortment of wines and handcrafted cocktails are also available.

Movie patrons sit in oversized upholstered reclining seats with leather accents, complete with a swivel table and dedicated service push button. Each chair also includes a dim LED light and storage compartment for purses and shopping bags.

Luis Castelazo, director of CMX, explained his intent in developing the theater.

“CMX’s luxury approach brings a heightened sense of glamour to the movie experience, putting moviegoers at the forefront of technology, comfort and gourmet dining,” Castelazo said. “Our Brickell City Centre cinema is one of the world’s only all-laser theaters, providing an exceptional entertainment experience.”

CMX has developed an app for smartphones that allows customers to browse movie selections and times and purchase tickets in advance. The app also allows guests to view the menu and order food and drinks which are then delivered straight to their seat without any interruptions.

The lounge and bar area is open Monday to Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. providing a place for guests to unwind and enjoy craft cocktails and daily specials even if they don’t wish to see a movie. The theater is available to rent for corporate events, celebrations and special occasions.
CMX plans future sites in other states as well.

Brickell City Centre is comprised of two residential towers, two mid-rise office buildings and a hotel in a $1.05-billion, 4.9-million-square-foot mixed‐use development in downtown Miami that is the work of Swire Properties Inc.
