Homeless essay contest open to students

homeless trust

The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, along with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, will conduct its fifth annual “Homeless Awareness Sensitivity Poster & High School Essay Contest.”

This contest is exclusively for students who attend public and charter elementary, middle and high schools in Miami-Dade County. The winning students will receive tablets and the teachers, or Homeless Liaison Coordinator who facilitates the students’ win, will be given E-readers.

Elementary and middle school students are eligible to participate in the poster contest, and high school students can partake in either the essay or poster contest. Through designing posters and writing essays, students will raise awareness of the issues facing those experiencing homelessness. All entries are judged on the impact their creative message has on topics such as ending veteran homelessness, bullying the homeless, myths about homelessness and antipanhandling messages.

The deadline for all submissions is Friday, Mar. 13. To register for the contest, go to www.homelestrust.org.
