Jay Alvarez’s Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You!

Cuban Museum commemorates 20th anniversary of the 1994 Cuban rafter crisis

Back in Miami by Popular Demand!!

Jay Jorge Alvarez fled Cuba by boat with his entire family in 1964. He was 4½ years old at the time. Alvarez plays various family members, most movingly the role of his mother who was terrified of venturing into the shark-infested waters of the Florida Straight. A moving and humorously human story, acclaimed by critics as the “very best of solo performances”, Alvarez returns to our community for this commemorative occasion.

Jay Alvarez’s presentation is part of the Cuban Museum’s Sweet Home Museo Cubano Series, which started in May 2012 with grants from the Knight Foundation and Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and continues until this September when it will end with a veritable Bang!!!

Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You! and the accompanying exhibition by artist Sergio Lastres titled Crónicas delagua are the last programs of the Sweet Home Museo Cubano Series until spring of 2015 when the permanent venue of the Cuban Museum will be inaugurated .
