Jazz at Wolfson Presents features trumpeter Alex Norris on Nov. 4

Miami, Oct. 12, 2015 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department will continue its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, noon, featuring trumpeter Alex Norris.

The concerts is in the Wolfson Campus Auditorium, 300 NE Second Ave., Building 1, Room 1261.

Norris grew up in Columbia, MD, where he began studying music at age 9. He received a scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory of Music to study trumpet and later moved to New York City to pursue his music career and found work with the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Toshiko Akiyoshi’s Jazz Orchestra and Maria Schneider’s Band.

Norris also was a member of Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead, becoming musical director in 1998.

Still residing in New York City, he performs all over the world with his own jazz group and many other artists.
Norris has worked with many noted jazz musicians and is very active in Afro- Cuban jazz, having worked with Andy and Jerry González, Manny Oquendo, Paquito D’Rivera and Chico O’Farrill. He performs regularly at top New York jazz clubs. Norris has recorded more than 80 CD’s as a sideman and has a new CD, Alex Norris Organ Quartet: Extension Deadline, on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records.

MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live performances that run monthly from September through April. The concerts are open free to the public.
