Labor Day Weekend Comes Alive in the Grove

By John Kiskinis….
A host of family-oriented events and activities during Labor Day weekend helped to attract thousands of visitors into the Grove. Several thousand people attended the traditional eleven-gallery First Saturday Gallery Walk.

Highlighting the action-filled Sunday festivities was the 1-800-411-PAIN GREAT GROVE BED RACE, once again presented by the Grove Merchants Group. An estimated crowd of more than 20,000 people cheered on their favorite decorated beds as they raced down Grand Avenue.

The Coconut Grove BID provided an exceptionally large grant of $19,500 to make possible, in part, the continuing tradition of the Great Grove Bed Race. The BID also provided significant dollars both for private security support and also for the costs of off-duty police, as well as 100 percent of the sanitation and clean-up after the race. The Coconut Grove Business Improvement District is the primary supporter of events that take place in Coconut Grove.
