Music stars are rarely looked at as athletes. But multi-platinum Latin music sensation Prince Royce is looking to change that with his latest passion, running, when he joins 25,000 other runners at the 2018 Fitbit Miami Marathon And Half Marathon on Jan. 28.
Relatively new to distance running, Royce will run the Half Marathon distance and will be honored as the Grand Marshal of the race. He will also participate in the Saturday morning Fitbit Tropical 5K as a warm-up run.
He began running last spring when his cousin, an avid distance runner, challenged him to go for a run in New York City. By November, the Bronx native was running in his first New York Marathon.
“I am thrilled to participate in the Fitbit Miami Marathon,” Royce said. “My experience last year with the New York Marathon blew me away and inspired me to take on more challenges. I cannot think of a better way to start the New Year and celebrate another milestone with my people in Miami.”
Royce cites running as one of the reasons his on-stage endurance has increased.”I do a two-hour show and now, after I’m done with the two hours, I feel like I could do another two hours,” says Royce, 28.
When he sets out to run the stunning 13.1-mile route on Jan. 28, Royce will be just like all the runners alongside him on a mission to reach the finish line.
“I used to hate anything physical,” he said. “It was kind of like a battle within myself. I’m running to prove if you set your mind to something, you can achieve anything.”

Online registration for the Fitbit Miami Marathon And Half Marathon will continue through Thursday at $165 for the Marathon and $150 for the Half Marathon. Late registration will be available online Friday through Saturday at 3pm, or in person at the Fitbit Miami Marathon and Half Marathon Expo at Mana Wynwood Friday and Saturday January 26 and 27 for $170 for the Marathon and $155 for the Half Marathon.
