M-DCPS stands out in NAACP Diversity Matters Report Card

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) was identified recently by the NAACP as one of only three standout school districts in its statewide Economic Development Report Card.

The NAACP Florida State Conference examined the records of targeted cities, counties, school districts and private corporations statewide relative to their records on employment, advertising and spending with minority, women and veteran-owned businesses. The NAACP Florida State Conference conducts this review annually, proposes recommendations and releases its findings to the general public.

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to strengthening equity, access, and inclusion in the district’s business operations,” said Alberto M. Carvalho, superintendent of schools. “We want to ensure that every segment of our community is able to take advantage of available vendor opportunities.

“While we recognize that the work toward diversity and equity at all levels of the school district must continue, we are encouraged by the NAACP’s acknowledgment of our efforts, including the initiatives and programs implemented to foster greater diversity.”

Forty corporations and government agencies were reviewed this year. M-DCPS received one of only five “B’s,” the highest grade given. According to the methodology listed by the NAACP, the rating of “B” signifies an above-average performance on diversity and inclusion standards.
