Officers honored for rescue attempts in head-on collisionMoments after a head-on collision of two-cars on Krome Avenue at SW 144th Street on Jan. 19, Miami-Dade Police Hammocks District officers using fire extinguishers and a sledgehammer desperately attempted rescue of two victims who perished as flames engulfed their car. Administering first aid to four others before fire-rescue help arrived, the officers helped save the lives of three persons involved. For their courage and assistance at the scene, four officers were cited as Officers of the Month during a June 25 meeting of Hammocks District Citizens Advisory Committee. Pictured (l-r) are CAC chair James Blough, Sgt. Oscar Ravelo, Officer Sean Garvey, and Maj. Arnold Palmer, district commander. Unable to be present to receive their awards were Officers Manuel Machado and Lazarito Santos.
