Podhurst Orseck Promotes Ramon A. Rasco to Partner

The Miami-based trial and appellate law firm of Podhurst Orseck has promoted Ramon A. Rasco to partner at the Firm. Mr. Rasco joined Podhurst Orseck in 2006 as an associate and focuses his practice on plaintiff’s personal injury/wrongful death litigation, including aviation and motor vehicle litigation, as well as complex commercial litigation, class actions and multidistrict litigation.

“Ray possesses all of the traits that a partner should embody – he is hard-working, ethical, and passionate about the law,” said Aaron Podhurst, founding partner of Podhurst Orseck. “His clients trust him for his sound counsel and place the utmost confidence in him to best represent their interests.”

For nearly four years, Mr. Rasco has handled and overseen all aspects of litigation arising from the $1.2 billion Rothstein Ponzi scheme on behalf of a key executive of the largest private equity investor, including several state and federal actions and government investigations. He has obtained numerous recoveries for investor-victims in securities actions, class actions and other Ponzi schemes, as well as in wrongful death and personal injury actions arising from motor vehicle and general aviation accidents, including a recent $4.4 million verdict on behalf of a deceased pilot for the negligence of an FAA air traffic controller. He currently represents plaintiffs in federal multidistrict litigation against Chiquita Brands International for financial support of the terrorist FARC and against Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation for failure to warn of drug side effects, as well as hundreds of former players in the NFL concussion litigation.

Mr. Rasco earned his bachelor’s degree in Government from Harvard College, magna cum laude, and his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law. He is a member of the Cuban American Bar Association and the American Association for Justice (Aviation Law Section). He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Mr. Rasco was selected in Florida Trend’s Legal Elite in 2011 and 2012 in the area of business litigation and has been recognized by SuperLawyers every year since 2009.

Mr. Rasco has served for the past six years on the board of Chapman Partnership, the private sector partner of the Miami Dade County Homeless Trust, and is Treasurer and board member of DFYIT, an organization focused on the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse among adolescents. He was elected to the Orange Bowl Committee in 2009 and was at that time the organization’s youngest member.
