The Rotary Club of Miami Brickell is as active as ever in community outreach. Most recently the members participated in a two-day project with a group of City of Miami Firefighters priming, patching, caulking and painting the Lotus House Youth Building.

Speaking of Rotary, Gables Rotarian and graduate of University of Miami’s Law School Rebecca Kibbe has been promoted to partner in the law firm of K&L Gates’ Miami office located at 200 Biscayne Blvd.

Kibbe’s firm focuses on product liability and toxic tort defense, specializing in asbestos litigation. She has defended product manufacturers and premise owners in product liability and general liability matters in both state and federal court and also has served as local counsel, managing and defending thousands of toxic tort claims pending throughout Florida through all phases of litigation on behalf of manufacturers.

On the sports front, the UM Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting eight Hurricane legends at the 46th Annual UM Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Thursday, Apr. 10, at Jungle Island in Miami. The Class of 2014 includes James Jones, of the Miami Heat; Andre Johnson, currently with the Houston Texans; former NFL star Clinton Portis, and former Miami Dolphin Lamar Thomas. Also being inducted this year will be baseball greats Jeff Morrison and Javy Rodriguez; track All-American Wyllesheia Myrick, and NCAA diving champion Rio Ramirez.

Guests will enjoy mingling with inductees and Hall of Fame members during the 6 p.m. cocktail reception before dinner. Tickets are $100 per person or tables of 10 for $1,000. Super Tables for $1,500 include front seating and a free ad in the program. Local businesses or individuals also may want to purchase ads in the program to salute their favorite inductee. If you love ballet, save Saturday, Apr. 26, for a great show. The Pre-Professional Division students from Miami City Ballet School will present 12 original works created during a seven-month Student Choreography Class, a program new to the school. This class of 60 students began the course in September. The Student Choreography Showcase, a culmination of their work, will take place at Miami City Ballet Studios, 2200 Liberty Ave. in Miami Beach, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. In addition, Gloria participates in numerous other charitable events and is a member of the Business Forum Group, Profit Inc., the Greater Miami Festival & Events Association and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. In other volunteer activity, Gloria helps Miami Christian School with fund-raising and PR; is an Ambassador and volunteers for events for A Safe Haven for Newborns. She is an active member of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she enjoys singing in the choir every weekend.
