As the seventh-generation owner of Morays Jewelers, Beau Hequin thinks about his mother often these days. Sandra Hequin, whose guidance and steady leadership helped the Miami-based business grow over the years, died of breast cancer in November 2014. She was only 53.
Known as “Sandy” to her friends, she was a fixture in her family store beginning as early as five years old, when she would help sweep the floors. Through the years at the helm, she quadrupled sales for the store. Staff and customers who knew her throughout the years have fond memories of her passion for the jewelry business and her commitment to family
Hequin, 27, now believes he can make Morays Jewelers prosper even further by relocating the store from the historic Alfred DuPont building in downtown Miami to the prestigious Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. It’s a big move for the store that opened in The DuPont building many years ago at 50 NE 2nd Avenue.
Hequin has taken over the reigns of a family business that has flourished since his great-grandparents Murray and Sally Schechter opened the store in 1944. The store actually began more than 100 years ago. In 1900, founder Max Schechter emigrated to New York and sold watches from a pushcart.
These days, the Moray’s Jewelers sells a variety of high-end watch brands and stunning jewelry, including engagement rings, loose diamonds, precious gemstone jewelry, diamond earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pearls, designer and fashionable gold jewelry.
As part of the move, Morays wants to feature their new store with all new fresh merchandise and is currently hosting a huge Store Closing Sale. Their current jewelry inventory is dramatically discounted and positioned for quick sale. Savings are currently up to 70% off! The sale is open to the public and goes until all inventory is cleared.
Hequin, knows his mother and family dearly loved being part of the historic downtown Miami community but he feels strongly they would approve of looking to the future and moving to an exciting new location on The Miracle Mile in Coral Gables
He also knows …”her spirit—seeing the best in people and them succeed— lives on through the family business”, Hequin said.
