St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove recently celebrated its 100th birthday with a garden party on Saturday and a Festival Mass on Sunday.

Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado spoke at the garden party, which was reminiscent of those given in the church’s heyday in the early 1900s. Regalado presented the church’s rector, The Rev’d Wilifred Allen-Faiella, with a proclamation and was given a copy of the church’s 100th anniversary book, The Heart of The Grove: The First 100 Years of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

St. Stephen’s, along with Christ Church, were among the earliest Episcopal churches founded in Miami and go back to the first decade of the 1900s. St. Stephen’s was responsible for forming St. Andrew’s Episcopal church in Palmetto Bay and St. Thomas and St. Phillip’s Episcopal churches, both in Coral Gables. It also runs St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School in Coconut Grove.
