Taste of the Tropics opening reception, exhibit to recognize student artists

tasteoftropicseviteMiami-Dade County Public Schools, in partnership with Pinecrest Gardens and Dade Art Educators Association Inc., will present Taste of the Tropics student exhibit on Thursday, Mar. 3, 6 to 8 p.m., at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 Red Rd.

This free thematic exhibition allows students to examine Miami’s nuances while viewing it like a true native as they explore it through various media including drawing, painting, and printmaking. The event will include music by John A. Ferguson Senior High School’s Steel Band, “Pan Life.” Approximately 298 students in grades K-12 will be exhibiting their work through Mar. 29 at the Pinecrest Gardens Gallery.

The exhibition is an example of enduring partnerships between schools and the community. In addition to student exhibitions, Pinecrest Gardens collaborates in providing field experiences for students and professional development for teachers.
