Teatro Prometeo was founded more than 35 years ago at the Miami Dade College Wolfson campus with the mission of preserving the Spanish language and Hispanic culture through theatre. With the vision and support of MDC president Dr. Eduardo Padrón and its founder Teresa Maria Rojas, Teatro Prometeo soon became a veritable treasure of Miami’s cultural community, and since then has produced and presented more than 100 works, in addition to educating more than 500 students in the art of theater every year, contributing to the transformation of Miami Spanish theatre stages. In the fall of 2006, Teatro Prometeo entered a new era by joining the Center for Literature and Theater at Miami Dade College under the direction of Joann María Yarrow and advising of Alina Interián, Executive Director of the Center. Teatro Prometeo offers classes throughout the year in acting, voice and diction, body expression, and acting before the cameras, including comedy, improvisation, dramaturgy workshops, and much more. Prometeo’s professional two-year program is unique in the nation because it offers theatre training in Spanish.
