“Unbound,” New World School of the Arts’ 2017 BFA final visual arts showcase is a group exhibition highlighting a variety of works from 23 visual artists of divergent disciplines, professionally curated by NWSA dean of the visual arts program, Maggy Cuesta and gallerist Fredric Snitzer.

A culmination of four years of intensive study, Unbound is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of a bold and dynamic group of emerging artists from whose objective for this exhibition is to explore and exploit hybridity in various ways.

Opening Reception is Friday, Mar. 24, 7-10 p.m. at Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), 1018 N. Miami Ave. On view Mar. 24-Apr. 8, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. by appointment, the exhibition is open free to the public.

The NWSA college seniors work with a variety of mediums, materials and forms, crossing and blurring the lines between their respective traditions in search of new and unconquered territory. In this pursuit of somewhere else, of something new, these artists not only find the unique visions that set them apart, but also the zones of tension and contact that bring them together as a group. The result is a kaleidoscopic show — fragmentary and cohesive — reflective of a personal yet common yearning to make the world anew — to see the book of life unbound.

Participating NWSA BFA college students include: Lady S. Abanto, Cindy Becerra, Thomas Bils, Amanda Bradley, Emma del Rey, Lorena Diez, Daniel Espinosa, Bryce Fayaz, Victor M. Gerald, Angelica Gonzalez, Rachel Lee, Tania Mayorga, Jon C. Millan, Lanai Nassar, Andrea Ortiz, Ema Ri, Beatriz Rodriguez, Rafael Rodriguez, Gianna Richard, Gabrielle Rivera, Alejandra Suarez, Alejandro Valencia and Monica Vida.

The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 by Ella Fontanals Cisneros and her family, to foster cultural and educational exchange among the visual arts. In six years CIFO has become a dynamic institution promoting cultural exchange through its exhibitions and events.

New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature, as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
