Does this sound familiar? Had a tough time getting out of bed this morning, hit the snooze three or four times then finally drag yourself out of bed, somewhat dreading the day ahead. Blow off the morning workout that you planned to do because you’re feeling tired (and fat). Have a bad day at work because the economy is still down and everyone is stressed. Come home, too tired and lazy to cook dinner so order some take out or eat whatever you can find in the refrigerator. Throw back a couple glasses of wine or a few beers to take the edge off. Now comes the late night sweet craving so eat some ice cream and hit the sack, hoping for a better tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and here we go again…Feeling poorly, don’t want to get out of bed. Hit the snooze… again.
If this sounds familiar, it is time to break the cycle of negativity and unhealthy habits and patterns and start feeling good again. You can control the way you feel. You can’t control the economy or someone else’s poor driving or behavior, but you can control the way you feel. Take control over the things you can; your health, your energy, your body and your choices. Decide today that tomorrow is going to be your first day of feeling better.
Give yourself thirty days. No alcohol during the week and limit it on weekends. No late night desserts. (The alcohol and late night sweets are why you are so sluggish in the morning.) Start exercising a minimum of three times per week. It doesn’t matter what type of exercise you do at this point, just do something. Do some resistance training, go for a walk, get on the elliptical, etc. Make healthy food choices. Good, healthy food will make you feel good. Bad, unhealthy foods will make you feel bad. It’s really as simple as that. You don’t need to get too technical, you know what is generally healthy and what is generally unhealthy.
Stick with it. It will take a few days to kick in but after seven days you will start to feel better. By thirty days you will feel so amazing that you will not even remember how bad you felt. Believe me. The hardest part is just making the decision to start. Start tomorrow. Nothing feels better than looking good.
