A garden of art blooms next month in special event

The Community Foundation of Pinecrest’s Garden Pop fine art exhibition promises Miami Dade County teachers an opportunity to bring students to view original works of Andy Warhol, his contemporaries and other well known local artists. From November 9 through November 25, this fine art exhibition will be on display at Pinecrest Gardens.

Admission is free and event chair, Steve Steele, will accommodate requests from teachers for special tours. A fundraising preview night party will be held November 7, featuring live music, food and drinks from Whole Foods and Bacardi, a tour of the Gardens as well as an opportunity to view and even purchase great works of art with a portion of the proceeds benefiting charity. Among the many other sponsors who have committed to this new event include EWM Realtors, Bill Ussery Motors, and Aberto Romeu Photography, to mention a few.

The Blue at Doral’s 5300 Chop House held a Food and Wine Festival recently with proceeds benefiting Kids Hope United. Guests enjoyed tasting some great wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, live music, and food prepared by The Blue’s new Executive Chef Tim Hughes. Judy Pasternac, Development Director for Kids Hope United, orchestrated a silent auction for the evening to complement this lovely poolside affair. The Blue’s General Manager Steve van Hemert and Food and Beverage Manager Jorge Rodriguez were on the scene to welcome guests.

Louise Gross, a travel agent, conference and meeting planner, and popular South Florida networker, was installed on September 30, as the 2010 President of Business Referral Group now celebrating its 10th anniversary. BRG meets every Tuesday in Coral Gables. Serving with Gross will be Jeffrey S. Benjamin, personal injury attorney, president-elect; Dominic Lamberti of Padgett Business Services, treasurer; and Eli Ristine of Pan Florida Realty, secretary. The Miami-Dade Business Leadership Network, that promotes employment for people with disabilities, held its 2nd Annual Fundraising Gala at Britto Central Gallery on Oct. 21, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the American Association of People with Disabilities’ “Disability Mentoring Day” Program. Funds raised benefited MDBLN’s internship program, which provides area businesses with a no-cost, funded internship program encouraging the employment of individuals with disabilities. Publix Super Markets, Inc. was the evening’s honoree. Until next week, keep making each day count.

A graduate of the University of Florida with a major in Spanish, Burns has an extensive background in advertising, marketing and reciprocal trade, travel , non profit consulting and management. Before joining Miami's Community Newspapers as a columnist and marketing specialist, Gloria was the Executive Director of the Jr. Orange Bowl Committee (6 yrs.) and first Executive Director of the Coral Gables Community Foundation (14 yrs.) and the Pinecrest Community Foundation (1 ½ yrs) . Burns' volunteer activities led her to become a columnist for Community Newspapers writing Gloria’s Gab, that focuses on the non-profit activity, and a host of an online show, Gloria's Gab LIVE. Gloria serves the board of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables as Civic and Charity Chair, and is involved in the club's International Committee. She is an active Life Member of the Jr. Orange Bowl Committee and is Secretary of the Merrick Festival. She serves on the board of directors of the Coral Gables Woman' Club as Publicity Chair and also coordinates the club's monthly fundraiser for various charities with Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger. In addition, Gloria participates in numerous other charitable events and is a member of the Business Forum Group, Profit Inc., the Greater Miami Festival & Events Association and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. In other volunteer activity, Gloria helps Miami Christian School with fund-raising and PR; is an Ambassador and volunteers for events for A Safe Haven for Newborns. She is an active member of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she enjoys singing in the choir every weekend.
