District rotarians gather in Doral

Rotarians from throughout Southeast Florida’s District 6990 gathered for a social Rotary2Rotary event at Famous Dave’s in Doral July 14.

Among many enjoying the event: District Governor Larry Herman; former Rotary International President Frank Devlin, making a surprise visit from Mexico; former Coral Gables President and District Newsletter Chair Yoli Woodbridge; former District Governors Joe Roth and Robin Shelly; Doral Rotary President Iliana Carbajal; Westin Rotarian Joe Marouf and South Miami Rotarian Marti Rosen, to mention a few. BTW: Doral Rotarians meet weekly at Famous Dave’s for dinner and invite visiting Rotarians to join them, any time.

Volleyball players have found a home at 7 p.m. Wednesday nights at Miami Christian School, 200 NW 109th Ave. where the MCS volleyball boosters are holding Open Gym nights. Seems indoor volleyball courts are hard to find and players are coming from far and wide to take advantage. Admission: $3 per person with all proceeds benefitting the MCS volleyball program. All ages are welcome to participate.

On the medical front, Dr. Lawrence Schiffman recently opened his new office in Doral at 3650 NW 82th Ave., celebrating the occasion with his wife, Erika, and staff by inviting neighbors to a lovely open house party. Currently, Dr. Schiffman is the only dermatologist with a Doral office and will no doubt be a popular option for many who must otherwise travel across town for service. Aside from treating serious medical conditions, the office also offers fillers, laser treatments and more.

Among offices in the same building are those of longtime Doral Business Council member and worldrenowned surgeon, Dr. Alejandro Badia, and Ortho Now where this writer was recently treated for a fractured wrist with no-wait time. BTW again: Ortho Now has become so successful that you will soon see new franchise locations opening in Aventura and the Dadeland area.

Finally, save Wednesday, Sept. 30, for a great Doral Business Council Expo at Firemen’s Memorial in Doral, 8300 NW 21st St., from 12 noon to 8 p.m. It promises to be a great day of programs in the early afternoon followed by the Expo.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
