The Two Hundred Club continues its beneficial work

Jorge and Maria Rodriguez Walling, Bryanna Nunez, Stuart Gilbert, and Hank Langston prepare to pose for a photo-op at Two Hundred Club dinner reception.

The Two Hundred Club held its semiannual dinner at Riviera Country Club with President Susan Perry-Fuhrman on hand to welcome guests and preside over the festivities. The affair attracted a record crowd to support this organization that has paid benefits and contributions in excess of $1,000,000 to the families of police and firemen who are killed in the line of duty.

Featured as the guest speaker was Special Agent in Charge, FBI, Miami, John V. Gillies. Among the many faces in the crowd that evening were Dick Souviron, Gayle Bainbridge, Peter Bermont, Atley Wampler, Bill Reese, Sonny Alsobrook, Harper Davidson, Judge Maria Korvich, Chief Jim Skinner, Hank Langston, Jorge and Maria Rodriguez Walling, Bryanna Nunez, Stuart Gilbert, and Gary Gregory, to mention a few. Those interested in joining this organization and contributing to its mission are encouraged to contact Nancy Morgan, at 305-443-8973.

Actors’ Playhouse had its opening night on May 14th for the world premiere of Michael McKeever’s new play, Unreasonable Doubt. Having just received six Carbonell Awards at the 34th Annual Carbonell Ceremony for its production of LesMiserables, this is yet another stretch for Actors’ Playhouse and a successful one at that. The plot involves an ex policeman whose 10 year old daughter was tortured, raped and killed. He takes hostage the lawyer responsible for getting the killer off for a previous murder and the action unfolds from there in a small cabin in upstate New York.

While the plot sounds heavy, the author provides moments of tenderness, remorse, and humor. The cast is excellent with Gordon McConnell, as the avenging father: Terry Hardcastle, the lawyer; Barbara Bradshaw, the step mom who provides humor; Antonio Amadeo, the girl’s uncle; Patty Gardner the ex-wife of the father; and Sandi Jean as the ten year old child who was murdered. Artistic Director David Arisco and Barbara Stein should be congratulated for promoting new works and bringing this production to our community.

Gulliver Schools’ Dean of Faculty, Hank Langston, was one of only 120 civilians, leaders in business, education and government from around the United States invited by the Secretary of the Air Force to attend the 57th Annual National Security Forum at the Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, in Alabama. During this conference, these leaders will meet with senior military leaders to explore current and future national security issues facing our nation. This is an opportunity for an open and candid exchange of ideas among the guests, military and the Air War College students.

The Air War College, part of Air University is the senior development school in the Air Force officer education system. For more information on Air University, you may go online to www.au.af.mil.
